First-time Math-A-Thoners double their goal.

Pardes Jewish School, in Phoenix, Arizona, participated in its first Math-A-Thon this November. The 150 K-8 students who participated raised an amazing $11,000. To encourage students to take part, the event’s coordinator, Bethany Spector, offered incentives: ice cream sandwiches for classes that turned in all permission slips. And, if the schoolwide goal of raising $5,000 was met, a Pajama Day. “We had no idea $5,000 was a large goal,” Spector said. “We just thought it was realistic for our first year.” The fact that the students raised double their goal showed how much kids can do for other kids.
